The process of hydraulic shoring typically involves the following steps:
- Excavation: A trench or excavation is initially dug to the desired depth.
- Placement of vertical supports: Vertical supports, usually made of aluminum, are positioned along the walls of the trench. These supports are called hydraulic shores or hydraulic jacks.
- Positioning of hydraulic cylinders: Hydraulic cylinders are then extended out by using the pump. These cylinders can be extended or retracted using hydraulic pressure.
- Adjustment and stabilization: The hydraulic cylinders are adjusted to apply pressure against the trench walls, exerting a force that counteracts the lateral pressure of the soil. This pressure helps prevent the walls from collapsing.
- Monitoring and maintenance: The hydraulic shoring system is continuously monitored during excavation work to ensure its stability. If any movement or instability is detected, adjustments or additional supports may be required.
Hydraulic shoring provides a safer working environment for workers by reducing the risk of cave-ins and collapses during excavation.
