MDU Resources Group, Inc., a company that provides essential products and services through its regulated energy delivery and construction materials and services businesses, has announced that Rob L. Johnson has been named president of its natural gas pipeline subsidiary, WBI Energy, Inc. Johnson will be taking over from Trevor J. Hastings, who will become the chief operating officer of Knife River Corporation, MDU Resources’ construction materials subsidiary.
Johnson, who is currently the executive vice president-commercial for WBI Energy, has been with the company for over 40 years. He joined WBI Energy in 1983 as a communication specialist and has since held various positions of increasing responsibility, becoming vice president-commercial in 2013 and executive vice president-commercial in 2020. During his tenure at WBI Energy, Johnson has led significant business development activities, resulting in the doubling of the company’s system capacity, with over 1.26 billion cubic feet of natural gas transportation capacity added.
According to David L. Goodin, president and CEO of MDU Resources, Johnson’s long-tenured experience and vast expertise with the regulated natural gas pipeline business will continue to serve the company’s stakeholders well. Johnson has an associate degree in electronics from North Dakota State College of Science and a bachelor’s degree in business administration, with an emphasis in finance, from the University of Mary in Bismarck. He has also been active in a number of industry organizations, including as a current board member of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America and a past board member of the North Dakota Petroleum Council.
